Teens Excited About Careers As Technicians

Teens Excited About Careers As Technicians Dan Mittendorff, Freshman Admissions Advisor

In November, ATI welcomed 30 students from Arcadia High School/Badger Votech from Accomack County, Virginia. They toured the Automotive, Heavy Vehicle and Welding departments with their instructors Mr. Glenn Muhle and Frank Borowicz. This was the third year for a visit from Badger VoTech.

During their tour, Mr. Muhle ran into one of his former students who is currently a welding student at ATI. Mr. Borowicz and Mr. Muhle both have past students enrolled at ATI in the automotive and welding programs. The students and staff from Arcadia High school were all impressed with what they saw during the tour and everyone commented on the quality of the instructors they spoke with. Many of the students expressed a desire to enter ATI after graduation this spring.

In December, ATI hosted students from Norfolk Technical Center to tour the HVAC program at Miller Store Road, and the main campus, on Southern Blvd. Mrs. Lisa Weber, Norfolk Tech Center’s Guidance Counselor, instructors Mr. Nixon (auto), Mr. Sullivan (welding) and Mr. Pope (HVAC), and 40 students arrived at Miller Store for a tour and brief on the Heating, Air Conditioning and Ventilation program. Afterward the tour continued at ATI main campus where all students received a brief tour and course introduction for the Heavy Vehicle program by Rob Metzger, Automotive program by Stan Wise and Welding program with Ric Rosenberger.

This was the first field trip and tour for Norfolk Technical Center in recent years and the staff and students were very impressed. Mrs. Weber said that she hoped this would encourage their students to carry on their education in the technical fields they have chosen.
