An ATI advisor in Maryland called on Destiny Davenport and her family a little over a year ago. When the advisor left, the family talked it over and decided ATI was a perfect fit for Destiny.
Destiny and her parents came to ATI’s Winter Open House in 2016 and that is when they made the final decision. She would attend ATI.
After trying different trades in high school, the welding class is what caught her attention. Destiny said, “Welding was fun, I tried carpentry, but that just didn’t fit.”
Destiny said her long term plans are to stay in Virginia. “I want to work my way up to foreman or manager someday…..as long as I don’t get stuck in an office job,” she said, “I just don’t like sitting behind a desk!”
Newport News Shipbuilding interviewed and hired Destiny shortly after graduation. With a big smile she said, “It’s just what I was looking for!”
