Commonwealth Challenge Visits ATIHeavy Vehicle Program Coordinator, Rob Metzger, speaks to the students from Commonwealth Challenge

In February 2017, ATI welcomed 43 cadets from the Virginia Commonwealth Challenge program for a tour and short classroom presentation. Virginia Commonwealth Challenge’s program is to intervene and provide skills, education and the discipline to help youths become productive citizens. They also help cadets set career goals and expose them to specific types of training and education including trades such as the Automotive, Maritime Welding, Diesel and HVAC programs taught at ATI. Dan Mittendorff from admissions, coordinated with Mr. Nash Montgomery one of the department managers.

The cadets were given a full tour of ATI’s Welding, Automotive and Heavy Equipment/Diesel programs as well as several demonstrations of the equipment used by students and staff at the school. Mr. Montgomery expressed he was pleased with what the cadets saw and said that it is good that they understand the importance of technical careers and education. ATI participates in the career fairs held for the cadets and looks forward to welcoming them back for future visits.
